Cuiabá

Cuiabá was founded in 1719 and has today an average of 700,000 inhabitants. Main highlights of a visit are Indians Museum, House of Guaraná (Brazilian ginseng plant), Casa do Artesão (handicraft center), São Benedito church, Bom Despacho churches (replica of Paris' Notre Dame), Fish Market by the docks and the Geodesic Center of South America.

H/D City Tour - Duration: 3 hrs. Tour operates daily, leaving at 9:00 and 15:00. Cuiabá is famous for it's the green area and this city tour will take one to visit the Casa do Artesão (Handicraft center) with an interesting display of regional handicrafts, Fish Market, Casa do Guaraná (Brazilian Ginseng), Indian Museum, São Benedito Church (Cuiabá's oldest), a Mini Zoo of the Federal Mato Grosso University.

F/D Transpantaneira with Lunch Duration: 10hrs. Tour operates daily, leaving at 7:30 and returning at 18:00. Transpantaneira is the road that links Cuiabá to the heart of the Pantanal area. It has 100km, being 60km on a dirt road, spanning 127 bridges. Tour will take one as far as Pixaim - 65km away where lunch will be served. This is a nice opportunity to take photos of the alligators and the many birds that come to the areas close to the head of the bridges where there is always small fish. For this tour it is recommended light clothes and tennis shoes. Return to Cuiabá by the end of the afternoon.

F/D Chapada dos Guimarães Park with Lunch - Duration: 8 hrs. Tour operates daily, leaving at 8:30 and returning at 16:30. Chapada dos Guimarães - 74km from Cuiabá by paved road. It is an exotic spot, full of local lore and on the side of the Mar dos Xaraés ridge. Strange rock formations, caused by erosion and rainfall, sculpted strange forms. Chapada - as locals call it, is a place to enjoy nature at its best and a treasured travel memoir. Highlights are Portão do Inferno (Hell's Gate), Cruz de Pedra (Cross of stone), Ponte de Pedra (Bridge of stone), Casa de Pedra (House of stone), Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon), Gruta Aroe Jari (Cave), Mirante, Cidade de Pedra (City of stone) and its waterfalls - the famous Véu de Noiva (Bridal Veil) 62mts high, Cachoeirinha, do Pulo, Andorinha, Sonrisal and others. Tour will visit the Chapada dos Guimarães area, with stops a Véu da Noiva waterfall, Cachoeirinha, Portão do Inferno, Salgadeira Tourists Terminal, the lookout, Sant'Ana Chapel - the last baroque monuments of the region. Lunch will be in one of the Chapada restaurants and return to Cuiabá will be in the late afternoon. PAX should take a swimming suit to this tour.
